JOIN HILL HOLT WOOD IN THEIR MISSION TO REDUCE WASTE AND HELP THE ENVIRONMENT

Lincolnshire-based woodland social enterprise, Hill Holt Wood, are changing the way they look at waste explains Rebecca Illingworth, a member of the team at Design:hhw. After receiving funding from The Environment Now Programme* Hill Holt has just launched their new project “Operation Sawdust”.  Much like any other woodland social enterprise or sawmill for Hill Holt Wood sawdust is a by-product of timber processing. Value is seen in the sawn timber for construction and in the products produced but what about the sawdust this creates? Operation Sawdust aims to use this resource to create fuel, ‘From Dust to Flame’.

The funding has supported the purchase of an impressive-looking briquette press which will be used to process waste sawdust into valuable fuel for fires, making use of the whole tree and reducing the need to produce more fire wood. The project doesn’t end there though, Hill Holt Wood want to offer use of their machine to the local community to help encourage others to reduce waste too.

How can you get involved?

The machine is available for community use in Hill Holt’s wood workshop, or you can donate your waste sawdust to Hill Holt Wood free of charge. Not based near Lincoln? Why not team up with your local community and start your own Operation Sawdust?

For more information on how you can be a part of Operation Sawdust, please contact us at operation.sawdust@hillholtwood.co.uk or follow us on twitter @OpSawdust.

Please note: Sawdust must be dry to use in the machine
